what we do
  1. The Center houses, maintains and circulates an instructional media collection consisting of the following formats:
  • - audio CD's
  • - VHS videotapes
  • - DVD's
  • - audio tapes
  • - computer software
  • - SMPs

Also, we are an affiliate lending facility (all patrons) for National Gallery of Art productions. All materials are housed in a close-stack area. Patrons present the call number(s) of the title(s) they are interested in (see Rohrbach Library Catalog the KU online public access) to the circulation desk attendant. The attendant will retrieve the item and setup any necessary equipment. Preview and listening facilities are available for our in-house service clientele.

  1. The AV Center houses, maintains and circulates audiovisual equipment to accommodate auxiliary needs of the University community: KU students, faculty and staff. Patrons may borrow equipment from the AV Center in person or arrange to have equipment delivered by completing an equipment request form.
  2. The AV Center houses a microcomputer lab. All workstations are Apple Macintosh and offer word processing, spreadsheet and database applications as well as Internet connectivity.

Currently, there is no charge for basic laser printer paper consumption, however we restrict Internet and other database usage to a printers that utilize recycled paper. There is a charge ($1.00) for color laser printer transparencies and hard copy. The AV Center houses a number of scanners and "Getting Started" user-support handouts are available.
  3. The Center offers a lamination service on Tuesday and Thursday to KU students, faculty and staff only. Work received by 1:00 p.m. may be collected after 3:00 p.m.
  4. Production facilities include an Ellison die-cut machine, cutting boards, digital cameras, digital camcorders, scanners, iMac computers with writable DVD-ROM drives, and a poster printer.
  5. Also, there is a Videotape/DVD Transfer Station. This equipment will take the video from a VHS or mini DV tape and transfer this data, in real time, to a blank DVD. Real time refers to the amount of time required to complete the process; hence a two-hour video will require a two-hour transfer time. Copyrighted material must have the permission of the owner before dubbing can take place.

We require all KU student patrons to present a validated ID and to complete, each semester, the policy form below. This form is repeated in the KEY and delineates student's borrowing privileges and responsibilities.

lamination

The AV Center offers a lamination service on Tuesday and Thursday. Materials to be laminated should be brought to the circulation desk no later than 1:00 p.m. on a service day. Materials can be collected at 3:30 p.m. the same day. Materials cannot exceed 24" in width, 48" in length or have a thickness greater than 6 ply. Further, materials cannot be smaller than a business card (2" x 3 1/2"), be composed of thermal material or contain crayon. The Lamination fee is $.50 per linear foot.

Because the nature of the materials varies greatly, the AV Center cannot guarantee lamination results or assume any responsibility for materials that are damaged. Questionable materials will be refused.

The AV Center provides this service as a courtesy to matriculated students and staff of Kutztown University for materials that are University related.

poster printing

We provide a poster printing service as a courtesy to the students, faculty, and staff of Kutztown University. Materials must be University (classroom) related.

The service costs a flat-rate of $5.00 for any poster created. Items to be printed may be dropped off at any time the AV Center is opened.

The actual poster printing is executed on Mondays and Wednesdays and may be picked up the following day. All originals must all be on a 8.5" by 11" page. This is a high contrast unit. Originals with strong black and white areas and with few half-tones print the best posters.

When in doubt show us your original and we will describe the results.

reserves

Material Reserve Procedure

The Audioviusal Center is pleased to assist Kuztown University with a non-print reserve service so that students may review supplemental classroom material or a missed classroom presentation.

The Audiovisual Center staff need a minimum of two days so that materials can be prepared for reserve circulation. Time is also needed to notify faculty of the temporary Call Number(s) that students will use to request the reserved materials.

The following guidelines should insure that the most efficient reserve service is provided to KU faculty and students:

  • Faculty members should complete a "Software Reserve Request" form in the Audiovisual Center and submit it with the materials to be placed on reserve to the Audiovisual Center Secretary (Please do not present materials to student employees.)
  • Reserve materials will be available for student use and faculty will be notified of the reserve call number(s) within 48 hours.
  • All reserves must be utilized in the Rohrbach Library Audiovisual Center while the reserve is active.
  • Only materials owned by the University or the faculty member may be placed on reserve.
  • Materials will be circulated in compliance with current copyright laws.

Recall Requests

Faculty, staff and students are welcome to retrieve materials that have been in circulation for an extended period of time (extended loan). Recall requests can be initiated at the Audiovisual Center circulation desk. When materials are returned, the individual placing the recall is notified by mail.
